Volkswagen ID.3
The 100% electric ID.3 is the start of a new electrified era for Volkswagen, and what a fantastic start it is. Not only does it have zero-emissions, it’s also carbon neutral to cement it as one of the most sustainable cars on the road. As VW’s first ID car, it’s also packed to the rafters with tech like Matrix LED headlights, keyless entry and a heated windscreen, with all these features available in 1st Edition models.
You have three battery choices: a 45 kWh, 58 kWh or 77 kWh battery. The bigger the battery, the more range you get. The biggest battery offers a range up to 340 miles, the medium battery offers up to 260 miles and the small battery up to 200 miles (WLTP). That’s plenty, and the I.D 3 supports 100kW rapid charging, which recharges the range to 80% in as little as 30 minutes. Big range, fast charging. Nice.

Design
The I.D 3 is a beautiful car. The angular body is futuristic but not in a garish way. It’s as classy as a Golf and even more advanced on the inside, with Discover Navigation Pro with a 10 inch display, a fully digital driver’s display and ambient lighting.
Drive
The ID.3 is powerful, refined and satisfying to drive. The instant torque from the electric motor is addictive, and there are semi-autonomous driving aids like Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Front Assist to make short work of journeys.
Practicality
The ID.3 has 7.2 kW AC and 50 kW DC charging capabilities as standard, but First Edition models get upgraded 100 kW DC capability. The 385-litre boot is bigger than the Golf’s and there’s plenty of space for up to 5 adult passengers.
Living with it
1st Edition models have 100 kW DC charging capability, ambient lighting with 30 colour options, Matrix LED headlights, heated seats and a heated windscreen. All models have Lane Assist, a reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors.
